It has almost been 1 year since this blog was started. It is crazy how fast time goes by! I set a lot of ambitious goals for 2014. There are some great achievements and then there were failures. Let’s review how the year went:
Reviewing My Goals 2014
Pay off Student Loans(Achieved)Create Pharmacy Blog(Achieved)- Create Financial Freedom Blog (Failed)
- Run a Half-Marathon (Failed)
- Become Board Certified in Geriatrics (Failed)
- Write and publish an e-book on “How to Get into Pharmacy School” (Failed)
- Save 50% of my net income (Failed)
1. Pay Off Student Loans (Achieved)
Around the Spring time of 2014 I was able to finally put away those student loans for good! Paying a 6.8% interest rate without any tax deduction is horrible (dependent on your income level). There is absolutely no reason to keep these loans around. Some argue that you lose opportunity cost for not investing your money in the stock market or other investments. Honestly I would rather take a guaranteed 6.8% return versus the historical stock market returns for 8-10% a year which is not guaranteed. Furthermore, you have to pay capital gains tax on that 8-10% return.
2. Create Pharmacy Blog (Achieved)
This blog was started at the end of January in 2014. Traffic has grown steadily over the year and has been quite a success. Thank you to all my readers!
3. Financial Freedom Blog (Fail)
The financial blog never came to fruition. I have changed my mind for now and will include financial type of blog posts within ThePharmacistBlog.com.
4. Run a Half-Marathon (Fail)
I did not sign up for a half-marathon for 2014. I am definitely paying the price for it. All I have been doing is working. Having 2 jobs working almost everyday, videography on the side, trying to keep up with this blog has taken a toll on my health for sure. Averaging things out I probably spent 1-2 hours a week at the gym throughout the year. I will have to add fitness and general exercise to my new goals for 2015.
5. Board Certified in Geriatrics (Fail)
I simply was not motivated enough to get this goal completed. This will definitely be part of my 2015 goals.
6. Writing an E-Book (Fail)
Writing an E-Book was something I thought would be a challenge. Again was not motivated enough to get this project complete. Will also push this into my goals for 2015.
7. Save 50% of my Net Income (Fail)
I got engaged this year so that completely wiped my chances for a 50% savings rate for the year. It still came pretty close.
What are your goals?
I hope to inspire others with my goals and I would love to hear yours. We are here to support each other, comment below on your goals for 2014.
